Ingredients

For the Tonkatsu
  • 4 pieces boneless pork loin chops about 1 inch thick
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Tonkatsu sauce
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Lemon wedges

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: Start by placing the pork chops between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to about 1/2 inch thickness. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Step 2: Next, set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Step 3: Dredge each pork chop in the flour, shaking off the excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally, coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick well.
  4. Step 4: In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the breaded pork chops in batches, avoiding overcrowding the pan.
  5. Step 5: Fry the pork chops for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  6. Step 6: Once cooked, slice the tonkatsu into strips and serve with tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, and lemon wedges, if desired.

Notes

To store your delicious tonkatsu, let it cool to room temperature before storing in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.
