Ingredients

For the Teriyaki Pork Balls
  • 500 g ground pork the star of the show, juicy and flavorful
  • 2 pieces green onions finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce for that savory umami flavor
  • 1 tbsp mirin a touch of sweetness
  • 1 tbsp sake adds complexity
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil provides a lovely nutty aroma
  • 1 tbsp sugar enhances the glaze
  • Salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, mirin, sake, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well blended.
  2. Step 2: Shape the mixture into small balls, about 2.5 cm in diameter.
  3. Step 3: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Step 4: Add the pork balls to the skillet and cook, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Remove the pork balls from the skillet and set them aside.
  6. Step 6: In the same skillet, add a little more soy sauce and sugar to create a glaze. Return the pork balls to the skillet and toss them to coat in the glaze.
  7. Step 7: Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly and clings to the pork balls.
  8. Step 8: Serve the teriyaki pork balls garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Enjoy!

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the skillet over medium heat for best results. You can also freeze the cooked pork balls for up to 2 months.
