Ingredients

For the Simmered Fried Tofu and Greens
  • 14 oz firm tofu cut into cubes
  • 2 cups mixed greens such as spinach, bok choy, or kale
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger grated
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup vegetable broth or water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the cubed tofu and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Step 2: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Step 3: Add the mixed greens to the skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until wilted.
  4. Step 4: Return the fried tofu to the skillet. Pour in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and vegetable broth. Stir gently to combine all the flavors.
  5. Step 5: If you prefer a thicker sauce, add the cornstarch mixture and stir until the sauce thickens.
  6. Step 6: Season with salt and pepper to taste, and let everything simmer together for a minute or two.
  7. Step 7: Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.
