Ingredients
  

For the Saba Misoni
  • 2 fillets mackerel fresh and fatty
  • 1/4 cup miso paste provides rich and savory flavor
  • 2 tbsp sake rice wine
  • 2 tbsp mirin sweet rice wine
  • 1 tbsp sugar enhances sweetness of the sauce
  • 1 cup water to create a lovely simmering sauce
  • 1 green onion chopped for garnish

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a bowl, combine the miso paste, sake, mirin, sugar, and water. Mix well until all the ingredients are fully blended.
  2. Step 2: Place the mackerel fillets in a pot and pour the miso mixture over them, ensuring they are well coated.
  3. Step 3: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  4. Step 4: Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the mackerel is cooked through and tender.
  5. Step 5: Carefully remove the mackerel fillets and place them on a serving plate.
  6. Step 6: Spoon some of the miso sauce over the fillets and garnish with chopped green onion.
  7. Step 7: Serve hot with rice or your choice of side dishes. Enjoy!

Notes

Leftover Saba Misoni can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave before serving again.
