Perfectly Fluffy Japanese Rice

Ingredients
  

Japanese Short-Grain Rice
  • 2 cups Japanese short-grain rice sticky and perfect for sushi or as a side dish
  • 2.5 cups water essential for cooking the rice to fluffy perfection
  • salt optional, adds flavor if desired

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Step 2: Drain the rice and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
  3. Step 3: In a rice cooker or heavy-bottomed pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. If desired, add a pinch of salt.
  4. Step 4: If using a rice cooker, follow the manufacturer's instructions. If using a pot, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  5. Step 5: Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes.
  6. Step 6: After cooking, remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Fluff the rice gently with a rice paddle or fork before serving.

Notes

Store any leftover rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave with a splash of water.
