Ingredients
  

For the Inari Age
  • 10 pieces inari age (fried tofu pouches) the star of the dish
  • 1 cup dashi (Japanese soup stock) provides rich umami flavor
  • ¼ cup soy sauce adds depth and saltiness
  • ¼ cup mirin sweet rice wine
  • 2 tbsp sugar to amplify sweetness
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar adds acidity
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds optional, for crunch
  • Chopped green onions for garnish, optional

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a saucepan, combine the dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and rice vinegar. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Step 2: Reduce the heat and add the inari age to the saucepan. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the inari age cool slightly in the liquid.
  4. Step 4: Carefully remove the inari age from the liquid and place them on a serving platter.
  5. Step 5: If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the top for a lovely garnish.
  6. Step 6: Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
