Method
 

  1. Step 1: Rinse the shrimp or prawns under cold water to clean them.
  2. Step 2: Place the shrimp or prawns on a cutting board with the curved side facing up.
  3. Step 3: Using a sharp knife or a deveining tool, make a shallow incision along the back of the shrimp or prawn, from the head to the tail.
  4. Step 4: Gently lift the shell away from the flesh, if desired, but leave it attached at the tail for presentation.
  5. Step 5: Locate the dark vein (digestive tract) running along the back and carefully pull it out using the knife or your fingers.
  6. Step 6: Rinse the shrimp or prawns again under cold water to remove any remaining debris.
  7. Step 7: Pat dry with a paper towel and proceed with your recipe.
